MEET GOOD SHEPHERD'S NEW PASTOR
The Rev. J. Ignaki Unzaga
Pastor J. Ignaki Unzaga is originally from Chile and grew up in the Lutheran Church going to summer camp in Patagonia where he represented the youth of his church nationally and internationally with the Lutheran World Federation.
After graduating from Culinary School he studied theology in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Wittenberg, Germany and Philadelphia, PA.
Pastor Unzaga has a heart for worship that has led him to become a Christian songwriter, contemporary worship leader and musician at different ELCA events.
Pastor Unzaga is passionate about mission and the preaching of the Gospel in word and deed. He started his life in ministry as a Youth Director and currently he serves as Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Passaic, a growing congregation of the New Jersey Synod. He is also the Mission Developer for "Bread of Life", a ministry of Word, Food & Sacrament in the Home Depot parking lot. He also preaches regularly at Crane's Mill Lutheran Retirement Center.
Pastor Unzaga supports the work of the ELCA and the New Jersey Synod. He has represented the Synod in nationwide trainings and events, and serves as a member of the New Jersey Synod Council and the New Jersey Synod Executive Committee. He writes for the ELCA Hunger appeal and he is actively involved in the local Ecumenical Association.
Peter Calabro, director of music ministries
Peter Calabro, our Director of Music Ministries (DMM) has held regular positions as a choir director and organist since 1989, prior to Good Shepherd; at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Harrington Park, NJ and Calvary United Methodist Church in Dumont, NJ. He is an experienced performer, teacher, composer and arranger. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Bennington College and a Master of Music degree in piano performance from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University where he was awarded the Ruth Ellen Steinman Bloustein full scholarship. His wide range of musical experience includes traditional, sacred, baroque, classical, gospel, jazz, Caribbean, world and contemporary. He is a regular participant in organ master classes and continues to actively participate in educational opportunities such as workshops, conventions and private study. He is an executive member of the northern New Jersey chapter of the AGO (American Guild of Organists) and a long time member of the Professional Music Teacher's Guild of New Jersey.
Janet Tenore, director of parish ministries
As the Director of Parish Ministries since March 2006, Janet oversees many aspects of church life that include the Christian Education committee, Congregational Life Committee and other church council committees on an as-needed basis. Behind the scenes, she is the prime liaison between pastor, the vicar, the church council, the congregation and the front office, making sure the church runs smoothly and efficiently. Janet grew up in Glen Rock and has been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since she was 10 years old. She now lives in Fair Lawn with her husband and three daughters.
